When What You See Doesn’t Match What God Said
Don’t let what you’re going through make you forget the God who is with you.
It’s easy to trust God when everything is falling into place—when doors open, prayers are answered, and life feels full of momentum. But what about when it’s the opposite? What about the moments where nothing seems to work out, and the very things you believed God would do look like they’re slipping through your fingers?
There are seasons that feel like a contradiction to the Word God spoke. Seasons where the people you thought would stay leave. Where every door you thought God would open remains closed. Where your obedience feels unnoticed. And your prayers feel unanswered.
In those moments, faith becomes more than a feeling.
It becomes a fight.
A daily—even hourly—decision to trust God’s Word more than your own understanding.
Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
The Bible tells us,
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
That’s not just a pretty verse for bookmarks and journals—it’s a powerful truth. What you see will not always reflect what God is doing. What you see might look like loss when God is actually preparing a breakthrough. What you see might feel like silence when God is quietly aligning every detail behind the scenes.
Just because your current reality doesn’t match the promise doesn’t mean the promise has failed. It just means the process isn’t over.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” — Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
Don’t Confuse Delay With Denial
God does not lie.
He does not forget.
He is not slow.
But we are forgetful.
When we grow tired and discouraged, it’s easy to start believing lies:
“God forgot about me.”
“Maybe I missed His will.”
“Maybe it wasn’t a promise after all.”
But Scripture reminds us:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you.” — 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)
When we let emotions override God’s Word, we risk stepping outside of His timing. Like Abraham and Sarah, who received a promise of a son but chose to fulfill it their own way—resulting in a decision that carried generational consequences.
Still, even when we fail, God remains faithful.
“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” — 2 Timothy 2:13 (ESV)
God’s Promises Have No Expiration Date
No matter how long you’ve been waiting, God is not limited by time. His promises don’t expire.
“God is not a man, that He should lie... Does He promise and not fulfill?” — Numbers 23:19 (NIV)
Even when it feels like the dream is dead, even when nothing seems to be happening—God is still at work. He’s not slow. He’s intentional. And the most comforting truth? God’s faithfulness doesn’t depend on you.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)
He Is Still the Good Shepherd
I don’t know what you’ve been praying for. I don’t know what you’ve been waiting on. But I do know this:
God is still with you.
He hasn’t forgotten you.
And He will fulfill what He promised.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)
Even when you walk through valleys, He’s still leading.
Even when the path is unclear, He’s still present.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” — Psalm 23:4 (ESV)
Don’t let the storm make you forget the Shepherd.
A Prayer for the Waiting
Lord, remind me that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. When my eyes can’t see the promise, let my heart remember who made it. Teach me to trust You in the silence, in the waiting, and in the unknown. I believe You are faithful. Help me to live like it’s true. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
