Surrendering to the Leading of the Holy Spirit
There’s really nothing better than being led by God Himself. I know that might sound simple, but it’s true. When God is the one leading your life, you’re not just guessing your way through—you’re being guided by the One who actually knows where you’re going.
I’ve lived enough life, and I’ve read enough of the Bible to confidently say this: you will never be disappointed when you choose to be led by the Spirit of God. Not once. Even when things don’t make sense. Even when you don’t understand why you’re walking through something. Even when you’re in a season where you don’t have the answers and everything feels a little blurry—He still knows exactly what He’s doing.
The truth is, God doesn’t promise to lead us down the easiest road, but He does promise to be with us every step of the way. He’s not the kind of shepherd who walks ahead and leaves you behind. He walks with you. He talks to you. He nudges your heart. And the more you invite Him in, the more you’ll recognize that voice—that gentle, quiet leading that says, “This is the way, walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21).
Sometimes, we try to figure everything out on our own. We pray for guidance but then still go do things our own way. I’ve done that more times than I can count. And every time I do, I end up running in circles—tired, confused, and frustrated. But the moment I slow down, breathe, and say, “Holy Spirit, I don’t know what I’m doing—can You just lead me?” everything changes.
Because He does.
He always does.
So today, I just want to invite you to do something simple. Something that might not feel huge, but could shift everything:
Just say, “Holy Spirit, come and lead me.”
Say it in your car. Say it in your room. Whisper it under your breath while you’re washing dishes or walking to class or scrolling on your phone.
Tell Him, “I don’t want to live my life doing what I think is best. I want to live the way You want me to. I want to trust You in everything I do, even the little things. I want to walk in step with You, knowing You’re a Good Shepherd. One who doesn’t let me drift too far. One who always comes after me when I wander. One who sees the full picture when I only see the corner.”
“Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” — Romans 8:14
This is what it looks like to be a child of God—not just believing in Him, but following Him. Trusting Him. Letting go of control and letting Him lead. And honestly? There’s so much peace in that. There’s rest in knowing that you’re not carrying the weight of figuring everything out. You’re not walking blindly—you're being led by someone who knows the way.
So if you’ve been overwhelmed, unsure, or just trying to do life in your own strength, maybe today is the day to pause. To get still. To say:
“Holy Spirit, I want You to lead me. In my decisions. In my waiting. In my relationships. In the quiet moments when no one sees. Lead me. Correct me. Teach me. I want to live my life with you, not apart from you.”
Because the safest place you’ll ever be is not in control—it’s in surrender.
And the best decision you’ll ever make is letting the Spirit of God guide your life.
A Simple Prayer
Holy Spirit, I don’t want to do life my way anymore. I want you to lead me. I trust that You know better than I do. Even when I don’t understand, help me to follow You anyway. Remind me that I’m not alone and that You’ll never let me go. Thank you for being so kind, so patient, and so faithful. I’m Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
