When What You See Doesn’t Match What God Said
Don’t let what you’re going through make you doubt of the God who walks with you.
It is easy to trust God when everything falls into place, when doors open, prayers are answered, and life carries momentum. But what about the days that feel slow and heavy, when nothing seems to work and the very things you believed God would do look like they are slipping through your fingers? There are seasons that feel like a contradiction to the Word God spoke. People you thought would stay leave. Doors you were sure God would open stay shut. Your obedience seems unnoticed, and your prayers feel unanswered. In those moments, faith becomes more than a feeling. It becomes a fight, a daily and sometimes hourly decision to trust God’s Word more than your own understanding, your feelings, or your timetable.
Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
What you see will not always reflect what God is doing. What looks like loss may be preparation for a breakthrough. What feels like silence may be God aligning every detail behind the scenes. Just because your current reality does not match the promise does not mean the promise has failed. It often means the process is not finished yet. God begins good works with a plan to complete them, and He does not abandon what He starts. So, when your senses say one thing and Scripture says another, choose Scripture. Bring your confusion to God, not away from Him. Ask Him to shape your perspective while you keep showing up in prayer, serving where you are, and guarding your heart from the slow leak of discouragement. Trust is built when you worship in waiting, obey without all the answers, and speak life over what God has spoken, even when you cannot yet see it.
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NIV)
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV)
Don’t Confuse Delay With Denial
God does not lie. He does not forget. He is not slow the way we measure slow. We are the ones who grow tired, lose focus, and start telling ourselves small, believable lies. Maybe God forgot me. Maybe I missed His will. Maybe it was never a promise. When emotions sit in the driver’s seat, we drift from God’s timing and reach for shortcuts. Abraham and Sarah were promised a son, yet tried to fulfill it their own way, and that choice rippled through generations. Even so, God remained faithful to His word. That is who He is. If you have taken matters into your own hands, return to Him today. Repent where needed, release your timetable, and receive His mercy for the next faithful step. Delay is often the classroom where character is formed, roots go deep, and motives are purified. God uses waiting to prepare you for what He has prepared for you.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you.” (2 Peter 3:9, NIV)
“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13, ESV)
God’s Promises Have No Expiration Date
God is not limited by clocks or calendars. His promises do not expire, and His word does not return empty. If He spoke it, He will sustain it. Even when the dream appears buried and the ground looks quiet, God is still working. He is not careless. He is intentional. And the most comforting truth is this: His faithfulness does not depend on your flawless performance. On days you feel strong and on days you feel tired, His mercies renew. You can wake up and receive fresh grace to believe again, to try again, to take the next step without shame about how long it is taking. Keep stewarding what is in your hands while trusting Him with what is in His.
“God is not a man, that He should lie… Does He promise and not fulfill?” (Numbers 23:19, NIV)
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23, ESV)
He Is Still the Good Shepherd
I may not know exactly what you are praying for or how long you have been waiting, but I know this: God is still with you, He has not forgotten you, and He will fulfill what He promised in His way and in His time. Even when the path is unclear, He is present. Even when you walk through valleys, He is guiding. Let the storm push you closer to the Shepherd, not further from Him. Let the uncertainty become the place you learn His voice again. Hold fast to hope, keep your heart soft, and let your confidence rest in the character of the One who leads you.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23, NIV)
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” (Psalm 23:4, ESV)
A Prayer for the Waiting
Lord, remind me that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. When my eyes cannot see the promise, let my heart remember the One who made it. Teach me to trust You in the silence, in the waiting, and in the unknown. Strengthen me to obey with a willing spirit and a steady pace. Guard my mind from doubt, my heart from bitterness, and my words from agreement with fear. I believe You are faithful. Help me to live like it is true. In Jesus’ name, amen.
